Release Week.

This past week was release week…  the time in every signed musician’s life where their value as a recording artist is reduced to the exact number of CD’s/legal digital downloads they can sell in the first week of a new record’s release. Right down to the single digits, the scans are counted and the fate of the record (and in many cases - the artists career) is cast…. Okay, i’m being a little melo-dramatic - it can be a very exciting time - but it can also be a stressful, fearful, and insecure time as well… It’s always been difficult for me to separate MY worth from the success and momentum of the band… And this unhealthy pattern is only intensified when something like release week puts a big ole’ magnifying glass on the situation. As hard as we work to establish ourselves, to write music, and lead worship from a genuine place I’d be lying if I said it was always motivated from a place of humility and surrender. Most of the time I walk on stage insecure, fearful, and intimidated… The truth is that I’m constantly having to lay down my pride, and subsequently lay down my music career, the very thing I work so hard to control and see succeed. It’s just so interesting to me how far i HAVEN’T come… All it takes is a little industry ‘under-performance’ to make me second-guess the very thing I’ve been called to!… as if God CALLS me to sell records!? He doesn’t by the way… He calls me to service. Service that’s not dependent on how I feel or how I’M being validated. At the end of the day, I don’t believe God cares much about record sales, radio chart positions, or even how many people hear my music… He cares only about my heart. About my soul. And about my Spirit. My music isn’t important to the Kingdom, only my love is.  And that’s the lesson i guess. let us not find our identity or worth or value or hope in anything but Christ.  Because only in Christ can we truly find any of those things anyway. that’s all i got for now. tim.

I just wanted to say that I think it’s awesome that you guys are so transparent. That you seem to be doing things for the right reason, for the glory of God! The first time I saw you guys in concert was at a National Youth Workers Convention in Cincinati(I think it was there)and you led worship and it was amazing because you were in worship too, not just putting on a show or performance but worshiping. I really like your music but I think it makes it even better to see your heart in a blog. I pray that God keeps blessing you!

  2. Heather Says:

i’m so blessed to be blessed by starfield. thank you for letting God use you. you truly are a blessing to your fans and i appreciate you being so transparent and honest. all that matters in this life is if we are giving God the ultimate glory that He deserves. and when i listen to your music, i believe God would say “well done good and faithful servant”.

  3. Wendy Says:

Wow Tim. That was so inspiring to read. I believe that all Christians must continually submit their lives to Christ, Its a daily surrender. Please continue to make Christ your focus and He will continue to shine His love through you and the band and into this dark world.
    God Bless!
    -Wendy(Nazareniac)

  4. Mike V Says:

Tim, you speak words of wisdom and of truth.
You have made me think of it a different way for sure!
    Great new album!
See you in Victoria and Burnaby!

God loves you and your heart, soul, and spirit.

Be Blessed. See you on the 24th!

  5. Stacey Says:

I picked up the cd yesterday and wasn’t disappointed! The cd is AMAZING! Y’all should be proud of yourselves! I know I’m proud to be a fan of y’all! In fact this might be my new favorite of your cds. :D Now if only I could see a show again… I figured it out the other day… Hello my name is Stacey and I’m a Starfield Addict. It’s been 3 years since my last concert… Yeah. I’m due for another show guys. *chuckles a little to herself*

  6. Kristin Says:

I can’t tell you how encouraging that is to hear you say that. I sing and lead worship and it’s a constant battle for me everytime. And I consistantly remind myself this isn’t me, it’s God. I don’t want people to walk away saying, “wow you were so good, you’ve got a great voice.” I want people walking away having just encountered God. Saying “wow God is so good.” So knowing you go through that too is comforting! You guys are truly inspiring to me, and I can hear the honesty in your music. I’ve had many encounters with God because of it, whether listening to it while I’m jogging, or leading your songs in worship. Thank you for all you do!

  7. Adam White Says:

    Tim,

    I appreciate the sincerity.
I understand where you are coming from (me being under a smaller magnifying glass, but a magnifying glass nonetheless).
When it comes to this position, I think you’re right. The one thing that matters is the sacrifice we offer, the heart/soul/mind.

    Love you guys.

  8. Ashley Says:

I think it’s amazing how many times we compare our self worth to worldy things. It’s true, we don’t think about what God really thinks. What He thinks is way more important than anything! Very well said Tim. I totally agree with you.

  9. Euan Says:

so so very true. i find myself seeing the same pattern with myself if someone hasn’t enjoyed a gig or has a complaint about worship in church or whatever, and it brings such peace when God makes the perfectly valid point that as long as my heart is one set on surrendered worship to Him then *I* am doing all I can be. =]

be encouraged, you guys have an incredible gift in what you’re doing.

  10. Tressa Says:

hey, i know how you feel comparing yourself to worldly things.. i’ll pray for you that you’ll trust God with everything and know that he looks at your heart and not how many albums starfield sells..
    seeya!

  11. Albert Says:

Thanks Tim, for your honesty - I haven’t heard of another Christian artist be transparent before worshipers and that’s encouraging to me. What a great reminder that He first loved us and cares for us, and that should springboard us forward to do great things. Everything else is just background noise compared to that love.

    Great stuff. =)

    ~ Albert

PS. I bought “I Will Go” last Saturday and really enjoying it. Keep up the good work for our God!!

  12. Sonya Says:

It’s definaetly easy to get caught up in the wold’s measurement of people- I can only imagine the stress you must be under to ’succeed’ in terms of the music industry as a band, but in God’s eyes, you ARE a success… as long as you keep following after Him, He is SO proud. (Not to mention the fans whose lives your music touches!) Thanks guys, for being willing, & doing what you do.

  13. Lisette Says:

    Great! I also agree, and…

…see you in Arnhem:) It’s going to be great:)!

    God Bless You!

    !EO-YOUTHDAY!

  14. Andy Says:

I think music and leading worship are two of the hardest things to not let get to your head. I mean you have all these people telling you how great you are and constantly reaffirming these talents that God blessed you with. I just think it’s unfortunate when that is what “worship” has become. I am fortunate enough to have a chance to lead worship at my church now and then, and I don’t think it matters if its the first time or the hundredth time. I think I always come on with a bit of insecurity due to the fact I don’t want this to be anymore than God but I do battle with the way that people treat me versus the way I view myself. I think it would be that much worse when your livelihood as an musician is put into play. Thanks for giving us an insight into your eyes on things Tim. God Bless you guys while you minister, and keep you safe while traveling. Your brother in Christ. -Andy Davenport_

  15. Christian Says:

I agree with you one hundred percent. It’s easy to do that, and to be honest it’s refreshing to know that i’m not the only human on the face of this earth. It sounds like you’re being refined. Like the rest of us. haha.
    Thanks for being honest.

  16. Jeremy Says:

    Hey Tim,
I appreciate your humility in light of how difficult that can be when you are a bit of a “rock star”. You said, “My music isn’t important to the Kingdom…” and I know what you mean, but I also want to let you know that your music is encouraging believers to worship and serve their God. I know that is a direct result of your love and hard work for Him.

Just wanted to give you a pat on the back and say thanks for allowing God to use you guys in His service.

  17. Brian (Davis, CA) Says:

Amen, bro. It’s so encouraging whenever I get to read blog posts by artists like yourself. I get to see what goes on your mind beyond the performance on stage and to know that you’re human just like everyone else. I used to put Christian artists on a pedestal and think they are always happy and smiling because of all the praise songs they write. I just want to let you know that your albums have been a huge inspiration and encouragement in my life. You keep it real and get the point across and I appreciate that. I will always be checking your website to see when you come back to the Bay Area for a showing =P Keep it up, guys!

    Brian

  18. Angel Says:

Tim I think what you said is true and that God doesn’t care about record sales but he cares about our hearts and our love for him!:D
    God Bless

  19. Chelsea Says:

It’s only every person brought up in Western society’s downfall to feel a need to sell ourselves. It would be a lie to say that you are alone in your feelings. Everything we buy, everything we consume, even ourselves as people contributing to the ‘betterment’ of society have worth only in how marketable we are, rather than our true tangible value as human beings. The value of quality is replaced with the desire for efficiency, which is fueled only by our innate, sinful, greedy hearts. It is a poisonous, and ultimately unsatisfying existence. Not only the love and passion for God, but the desire for fairness for all people, the strength of community, and true selfless service are the keys to filling the void and living a truly meaningful life.

Your honesty is necessary and extremely appreciated. Without it, we’d never be able to touch lives the way we are required to by God.

Good luck with everything, and take a deep breath - - you’ll be fine!!

    God bless

  20. Lisa Says:

Thank you for your honesty and vulnerability. Be encouraged that God is working though you and your band’s music. Every time I listen to one of your songs I feel instantly connected with God. Your songs are reflective, your words are powerful, and your heart is clearly in your music! Thank you for listening to God’s call for your life and becoming my very favorite band! And never forget that HE is your strength! In your weakness, He is made strong…right? Keep living your life for Him and you’ll never be forsaken!

  21. Veronica Says:

This is so true, and I really needed to hear it. Thank you so much not only for this blog but for your entire ministry and everything that you guys do. I’ll be praying for all of you. You’re all amazing =] God bless! <3

  22. Laura C Says:

I really enjoy that you are able to be yourself in all of your blogs. I mean really even some Christian bands let it get to their heads and forget why they are really doing this. I really enojoy your new cd. I just how ironoic it was, since I jusst back from El Salvador on a mission trip, I come back with the cd in the mail boc and well the ideas of missions and just depending on God is amazing. I’ve been sharing the cd and I think all of my friends are going to go out and by it. So good job. Keep doing what you do best, you have my support as a sister in christ, prayer buddy, and a fan. Love you guys, and God Bless!

  23. Renee Says:

hey guys! i’ve got to say the new album is great. i went to NYC this past summer and i really enjoyed being able to worship the Lord with you guys. you may not remember this but you signed my hat thursday night at NYC so thanks

  24. Lauren Says:

Wow, you hit it right on Tim. It’s been something that I have actually been thinking about lately, and something that I was really hoping you’d bring up, because you’re exactly right…God has called people to do certain things, in your case, lead worship, and bring people closer or in a relationship with God. He has not called us to sell cds or to get all hyped about on the things that WE have accomplished, because really, what have we exactly accomplished on our own? Nothing. What attracted me to your band 8 years ago was your humbleness to just let God work in and through you guys, and I still really look up to that today. Thank you for posting this, I wish more bands could understood their true calling as well.

  25. Danni Says:

HEY!You guys are the BEST band EVER! I LOOOOOOVE all of the new songs. I listen to them everyday for inspiration. I can’t wait until the next album!Never stop singing for the Lord!

  26. Danni Says:

OH and I also want to thank you guys for coming to Resurrection 2008! I had a BLAST! ^_^

  27. Julie Priddy Says:

everything stated here is so true. i’m an artist too and it’s hard for me to stay focused on glorifying my father instead of myself. i really admire you, tim, because most artists [[even christian artists]] would just push for more sells and you’re different. humble.
i may never meet you on eart, but i’ll see ya in heaven!
    loveee!

    julie

  28. timmothy Says:

got the cd in the mail about a week ago its great love the new songs yall were great at resurection in gatlinburg hope to see yall again live soon

  29. Camille Says:

So True. Im Glad To Hear That Because I Really Need To, Tim. And It’s True. We Dont Really Think About What God Thinks, Just What We Think. And Sometimes Others Think. Me Personally, I Dont Care What Others Think Of Me Except God. He’s The Only One Who Can Jusdge Me. His Thoughts Are The Most Important. And Your RIGHT About God Not Caring About How Many Records You’ve Sold, Or Any Of That. He Cares About You. Thank You Tim. I Definetly Agree With You. :) -Camille.

  30. Camille Says:

Whoops, I Made A Typo On That Last One. I Accidentally Made The Word Right In Caps. Sorry. :)

  31. dave pettigrew Says:

tim, this april 2 blog is really so true. i continually battle this & i’m on an indie level. my music is so important to me but in the grand scheme of things, what’s REALLY important? god, family, friends, relationships…those are things that matter. i consider the music a way to draw myself & others closer to God through the gifts that He’s given me. Every night that we go out & play is an act of worship & a way to draw closer to our Father. thanks for all that you do & know that what you’re doing is needed in this world….any time we can lead people & ourselves closer to God is a very very good thing & i think He loves our obedience in that….all the best & all for Him, dave

  32. Rachel Baek Says:

wow. this is an amazing story. most bands/singers always care about there fans and albums and stuff but you know what the real reason is. to love the lord almight and praise him.you guys are here to lead us into praises and not just to “sing”. right now im going through hard troubles in my accountability group, school, life.(i was just recently going through depression) but i know deep inside of me that there is a peace love for god, only. this was an awesome story that you have shared to us. today, i got your new album in mail. i couldnt believe it was actualy signed. i thought it was going to be like printed or copied. ahaha. anyways. if you can pray for me about my family(parent issues), accountability group, and my love for christ than that would mean a lot to me. because prayer comes in great power. i will be praying for you guys also.:]anyways. thank you for knowing the real reason of life/job…. this tells me that you guys know what youre doing and who youre doing it for. amazing. thank you. keep leading us into god’s wonderful praises and worship. i love god!<333

  33. Magen Says:

Thst post just says it all. This week I have cheerleading try-outs for the varsity squad. I’ve really stressed out lately and I have brought it out on the people I love. I felt kind of bad because if God doesn’t want me on the squad then so be it. I’m glad you posted this because it really does make me look at life differently. By the way I preorderd “I Will Go” at Ressurection and I got the cd the day before it came out. I listen to it everyday.

  34. Sydney Says:

I’m so glad to know the truth, and you express it very well. I struggle at times with using my passion, and my spiritual gift. At times it’s very hard to want to be recognized by your peers, and to want to gain some sort of place, or legendary fame, and lose sight of why you started. Thank you for your wonderful music and your truthful blogs, because they reveal to many that even though you are are a strong Christian in a Christian band, you still have struggles.

I will be praying for you guys on the road and at home! Thank you so much for your wonderful ministry.

    In His Service, Sydney Raines!

  35. Emily Says:

wow, that is so amazing and i know that god will bless you for just admitting that. Its so amazing that i band/singer would even admit that..i agree with the comment above that says that most people only care about how many c.d’s they sell. Thankyou so much for this blog and everything else that you guys do for everyone..i have been so touched and blessed by your music…you and jon are so funny on your videos posted on youtube. It’s great that you guys are able to travel with your wives. God bless you guys and may jesus keep you guys safe…<33

You guys are awesome and no matter what the sales say you should always remember that…I believe your music touches more people then you will ever know….As long as God is your main focus you can’t go wrong….i just found out my grandpa got cancer back in his liver this time it was his lungs before and would have no hope except for God’s healing power and i am grateful everyday God allows my grandpa to be in my life….God is my hope and my strength…well anyways i just wanted to say good luck and dont let the numbers get to you they dont matter only God matters and he is doing amazing things through you guys!!!!!!!!

  39. jc Says:

always proud of you my friend

  40. Matt Kees Says:

    Tim

Wise words. Thanks for sharing your heart. You are firmly planted, that is obvious to see… continue to seek after God’s heart as you have done.

It’s easy to become jaded by the industry… the reality is that so much of it is $ driven. But there are many, yourself included, who have the right perspective. Thank you for allowing God to use you in this way. We will pray for you and your brother and band mates as you work so hard to share the joy of Jesus through music! God is good!

    Matt

  41. Joahnna Says:

This is something cool the world should know. Our lives aren’t about what we do. It is about our service to God. Keep it up, Starfield! God is with you all the way and so we, your fans, are! Keep the grace! ^_^

  42. Amanda Doss Says:

i ordered your new CD from your store and i just got it today! i was so excited and my sister was making fun of me cause i was so happy! oh well, you guys are worth it! and thanks for the autographs! haha. you guys are awesome, so keep on writing the amazing songs that you do! you are amazingly blessed and i hope you use your blessing! well keep on rocking our world! bye!i love you guys! =)

  43. Stephanie Says:

Thank you so much for that. God bless you. Goodness gracious, I needed to be reminded of that. Wow. God is good.

  44. Irving Says:

Your new album has been a blessing to my life. Next month we we’ll be playing “Holy is Our God” in my church.

  45. Heather Says:

i gotta say, that when i met you guys in st. louis, the thing that struck me most about all of you was your focus. so many people forget that it’s about the service-when you looked out at the NYC crowd and said you didn’t want any of the glory? i know for sure you were a band i wanted to follow for more than the great tunes. i believe that it’s because of all of your hearts for God that your music so captivates me-i have no problem telling you that at my weakest moments where my life was falling around me, all it took was a prayer and a quick listen to remember what you said on stage. the numbers don’t matter-my motto is that even if you only touch one person, then you’re doing what God has called you to do. and it’s clear that God’s work through you and the rest of Starfield has touched many-so don’t let the numbers stress you out! you’re already a blessing unto God!

  46. Explicit Faith Says:

Thank you so much for sharing this and for humbling yourself in order that the message may come forth. I believe that many Christian artists everywhere suffer from this same dilema. I pray your words become a comfort to many and a blessing for the Lord. God bless your band!

  47. Laura C. Says:

I already typed one out and it i guess didn’t show up. But here it goes again. I admire you guys for being open and again taking in the readon you are in thid trade. To show God’s love and to live like he would. I give you kudos for being truthful to your fans in these blogs. It’s nice to see that you are not letting this rock-star thing get to your head and realize that God is the center of everything you do. I admire it very much. I love your cd, preordered it and didn’t get it signed, but I did get it the day before the official date. But I truely enjoy your guys’ cd. I love how ironic it was to get it. I mean really I just got from el Salvador and I come back and well most of these songs is about going out into the world and depending on God. I love that. Well keep doing what you do. I love you guys. Your Sister in christ, Prayer buddy, Street team member, and fan. Go bless and keep doing what you do.

OH I’ve been giving my friends previews of the cd and they love it also and they are buying it for them selves!

  48. Jackie Says:

Thank you for those words. I am a classical singer, performing opera/operetta nd also classical sacred music and in this part of the music world, you are made to feel sometimes that you ARE your voice. If you do not hit that note just right, or do whatever technical vocal trick just so, whatever, the directors auditioning you, the critics or even your colleagues will shred you. You are only as good as your last role on stage. I am not at a level to be judged by critics or whatnot, but definitely by hiring directors and colleagues. It is especially hard for me to remember that I am not identified by my voice, but by the Lord Jesus. Mainly because I am a new believer, having been born again in the fall of 2006 and baptized less than two months ago, but also because of the way the classical world is itself. Your blog made me think about what I let become important, my voice or the Lord and who I let define me, my voice, the people in the music world or the Lord. Thank you for this blog. You guys are wonderful! I saw you at Way Fest in West Palm Beach last fall. Please come back again this fall. Many blessings to all of you! : )

  49. Jewels (From Winnipeg) Says:

Hey Tim, Thanks so much for sharing what you did. I bought your cd a couple days ago and I love how honest your cry out to God is. Thanks for staying true to what you have been called to do. I have been blessed and so have many others.God’s best upon you always! your sis in Christ
    Jewels<

  50. Sarah K Says:

Thanks, Tim, for your post and honesty. God’s measurements are definitely different than the world’s (even those often used in the Christian music industry)! What a great message that our worth and value our found in God, and that God cares about the heart. If we love God, love people and walk in obedience to what God is calling us to do, that is what matters here and for all eternity.

You guys are great in concert! I wouldn’t guess that you felt fearful or intimidated beforehand - you seem rather confident.

I love Starfield and definitely want to get your new album! You seem to have hearts for God and I hope that you never lose that but as you said, lead worship from a genuine place. That is priceless. You guys have a gift and a special quality.

  51. KP Says:

Hi Tim - I really enjoyed talking to you on Chestnut St in Chattanooga, TN. The new CD is great, I really enjoy listening to it and my kids know almost every song, too. Starfield is a huge part of my family’s daily worship. Keep up the good work, you are very talented and I know God will use your talents to reach people for years to come. BTW - If you need someone new to make suitable green room arrangements, let me know. HA!
    Take care.

  52. Steve White Says:

Hey TIm, I appreciate your honesty, and we all sometimes tread that fine line of pride, when it’s okay to be proud of what you guys have accomplished (heck, you should be…I’m proud of you) while not basing your self-worth on it (which is why In Christ Alone is my favourite hymn).
I bought your album off iTunes when it came out, and it’s nothing short of another great album, which I expected. Well done, and I still tell people that I met you guys when I lived in Winnipeg, and one time we even went camping (I have photos)! Blessings from Vernon.

  53. Jamie Says:

Tim, this has really touched my heart. Sometimes we as fans don’t always remember how hard it is to be rock stars, and that it’s not all fun and games. Thank you for all the wonderful music and messages, and please come to Resurrection next year! :) lol

  54. Lexie Says:

    Starfield:

Your music tugs at my heart, and everytime i’m at school or at soccer practice or antwhere else, i hear myself singing or humming your music! Jamie is right, isn’t always easy being rockstars, its not all fun and games. I just want you to know, your fans (including me) are there to support you. Your music and the Word of God keeps me going, keep working hard and singing with your awesome voice. I really appreciate you writing.
I had an eating disorder before i went to Ressurection, but that 1st night, i realized God doesn’t care what my weight is, he just wants my heart, and now he has it, and will forever.

  55. Lexie Says:

Your music really impacts my life. You rock my socks! :) lol!
I’ve been dealing with alot lately: my friend just died, she had severe brain tumors. My best friend’s mom died too, she and i were close, she was almost my mom. My friend’s dad died recently of a heart attack. It all feels like so much, sometimes i just want to say, “Why did you have to do this to me, God, why?”
But then i figured out, everything happens for a reason, and if those people had the choice to come back on earth with us, they wouldn’t. They are in Heaven with the Glorious God.
I had an eating disorder before before Ressurrection 2008. I had never told anyone, not even my parents. But while i was there and Tim was praying, and i was down in front of the stage, i realized something. God doesn’t care about what you look like, or how much you weigh, he just wants your heart, and for you to believe in him. Now, i regret damaging my health by that.
I’m so excited about Ressurrection next year! Please come!!! I want to rock with Starfield and sing about God!! But, if you can’t make it, thats ok. It’s sometimes hard being a rockstar.

    God has all of me,
    Lexie <

  56. Lexie Says:

sry, i didnt mean to submit 2 comments! they were supposed 2 b all one, my bad!

  57. admin Says:

Hey all, so i just sat down and read everyones comments on this ‘release week’ entry and all i can say is that i’m so humbled by your kindness, and encouragement. It’s an honour to be a part of your lives - even if it’s just a little part. Thanks for lending your time to this little online community - let’s keep the conversation going!

    tim.

  58. Sarah Says:

Thanks for being so honest, Tim. I can see where the pressure of the industry might even lead you to feel like this kind of honesty isn’t a good idea, but it is so very important for all of us. Thanks for letting God use you in your weakness as well as in your strength. And thanks for blessing us by letting us know you don’t always have it all together. What a relief! I’d rather buy the album of some real guys working out their faith than from a shrink-wrapped version of perfection that can all-too-easily fall apart.

I lead worship at a big church and I know what you mean about stepping on stage with fear and insecurity in your heart. But I find that on the days when I am focused on drawing people to Jesus and NOT caring so much about what they think of ME, something profound happens for all of us.

I cling to that verse that says “He uses the foolish things of this world to shame the wise…” We don’t actually have to have it all together because his strength is made perfect in our weakness. It’s when we start thinking we’ve got it all under control that we’re really in trouble. So keep on being so real with us! That and the wicked Canadian humor will keep us all fans for life!

    Peace,
    s

P.S. I think YOU said what I’m trying to say much more profoundly with “Here I am at your feet, in my brokenness complete.” That song has had a big impact on our community. Many thanks!

  59. katlyn Says:

hey i just wanted to thank yall for the really great music. It really inspires me to keep going everyday!

  60. Angel Says:

  61. Angel Says:

Keep writing and keep us updated!!!:D

  62. Mary Says:

I think that’s something we all have to learn, and relearn again and again. I have to be reminded that if God wants something to happen in my life it will and what I want isn’t always the best. It’s really hard to care more about what God wants than what the world tells you you should do or even what you want to do. You’re for sure not the only person to feel this way.
I’ve said it time and time again and I’ll say it one more time. God has used you in so many peoples lives including my own. He has blessed you with a great gift that you have used for Him. I hope and pray that one day that I can do the same.
Thank you for all the music, great lyrics, worship, and reminders about faith.

Peace, love, and God’s grace, Mary

  63. Carol Says:

We have the new CD. It is an awesome worship album. Thank you for songs that draw me into worship. You are being used to further God’s kingdom.

  64. Rick Says:

Starfield is REAL. That is your appeal. (It rhymes… unintentionally).
Your honesty garners repect even if you fail.
    I really respect you guys.

    Stay close to Jesus.

  65. Heather R Says:

I admire you Tim for admitting what you have. It’s hard not to be caught up in the whirlwind that is our earthly lives. Success especially can often times scew a person’s understanding of God’s plan for them as compared to what the rest of the world thinks. How does one measure success in our following God’s will for our lives? Probably not by what other people say and what the world measures as success. I think our “success” can only be measured by God and our continued reliance on Him and our continuance to recognize that we are only vessels for God. Sacrifice of the self.
Certainly has given me something to think about today.
Blessings on you guys as you continue to be used as vessels for Him.
I have been blessed many times over the years through your ministry and I’ll continue to keep you all in my prayers. Perhaps some day I’ll get to see you guys in NL again.
    Many Blessings,
    Heather R

  66. E. Power Says:

I love your guys music. You have been to my small province of PEI 3 times and I have seen you the 3 times. I suspect you may not be back..but it would be nice. Keep allowing God to use you with your great lyrics..guard your heart.

  67. Brittany Says:

I have got to say that God does care about your music, it is very important to him, and he listenes to you everythime you sing, and I know he smiles. I’m so glad you guys love God this much, we need more people like you in the world. God has blessed you with so much talent, and he is so glad you use it to praise His name. So when you’re feeling rundown, tired, and intimidated; just remember how much he has done for you because Satan will not win the battle. We are on the winning side. God Bless. Love Him forever!

  68. Gina Says:

    Guys,

I have seen you live three times now. Twice at resurrection and in Kingsport. I just wanted to let you know that I think your music had a direct hand in bringing my twelve year old daughter to Christ. She cherishes your music, we listen to Beauty in the Broken as well as your self titled CD almost everyday. She has been after me to download I will go. By the way, I feel like most of your other fans. When I see you guys live, something special always happens. The spirit is alive in your band, don’t ever stop what you doing. Keep lifting and glorifying His name.

  72. Release Week.-free music to download to mp3 Says:

[…] freedownloads9184 wrote an interesting post today onHere’s a quick excerptThis past week was release week… the time in every signed musician’s life where their value as a recording artist is reduced to the exact number of CD’s/legal digital downloads they can sell in the first week of a new record’s release. … […]

  73. Tim Watkins Says:

  74. alicia Says:

just when i was starting to doubt the integrity of today’s Christian artists, you guys come up with the exact point i was thinking.
    jeremiah 15:19

Therefore this is what the LORD says:
“If you repent, I will restore you
    that you may serve me;
if you utter worthy, not worthless, words,
    you will be my spokesman.
Let this people turn to you,
but you must not turn to them.

i think all of us, non-artists included, still have that tendency to cater to the world’s way instead of God’s, whether it be to “reach more people” or because we see nothing wrong with it.
when our identity is truly found in Christ, only then will we be able to bring Him glory.

  75. Christin Says:

As an artist myself, I was encouraged by this blog. My ministry is not validated by record sales, big shows or anything like that. God has called me to serve and that’s all that matters. Thanks for reminding me of that!

  76. kelsey Says:

Your blog really touched me. I am finding so much success at the university I attend. I dream of being an astronomer and it is finally falling into place. But sometimes I escape to the roof of my building that overlooks the entire campus and just take a step back. I have to remind myself that success in this world in not necessisarily success in God’s eyes. So I ask the Lord to help me touch as many people as I can along my way.

In a sea of pompus, errogant, boastful physicists, I find when I am anything other than humble my life just doesn’t play out as smoothly. I can’t imagine the stresses and pressures that come along with your career. Despite your success, you are still humble. Because thinking you are not humble enough is an act of humility in itself.

Your music is awesome. My favorite songs will always be “Son of God” “Captivate” “Hosanna” and “Unashamed”

    Thank you!
    Much love,
    Kelsey

  77. Lindsay Says:

Tim, and Starfield, wow. Awesome awesome post… knowing that you’re real people, real Christians after God’s heart… it make me love your music even more than before, if that’s even possible. I went to a concert of yours in Moncton NB and was blown away by your compassion… I sponsored a child that night and I’m so glad that I did. You guys are awesome. So awesome. Bless you, bless you, bless you.

  78. Rafaëla Says:

Wow! I like the way you think =) You and the rest of the band are awesome!! =)
